Required final = (Target − Current × (1 − Final weight)) / Final weight

A final grade calculator solves the weighted grade equation backward. Your current grade contributes the non-final portion of the course, and the final exam must supply the remaining points needed to reach your target.

How to Use the Finals Calculator

What Grade Do I Need on My Final?

Most students use a finals calculator to answer one practical question: what score is needed on the final exam to finish with a target course grade. The answer depends on your current grade, the final exam weight, and the target you choose.

  • Higher final weight gives the exam more power to change your course grade.
  • A high current grade can make the target reachable with a modest final score.
  • A low current grade and small final weight can make some targets mathematically impossible.
  • If the required score is below 0, you have already met the target even with a zero on the final.

Final Grade Examples

If your current grade is 87, your target is 90, and the final is worth 25%, you need a 99 on the final. If your current grade is 82, your target is 85, and the final is worth 30%, you need a 92 on the final.
