Discount Calculator

Enter the original price, discount percentage, tax rate, and quantity to see the sale price, savings, and checkout total.

Discount Formula

Sale price = Original price × (1 − Discount rate)

A discount calculator converts the percent off into a decimal, subtracts that share from the original price, then applies quantity and optional sales tax to estimate the checkout total.

How to Use the Discount Calculator

  1. 1

    Enter the original price

Use the regular price before the sale or coupon. For a $120 item, enter 120.

  2. 2

    Add the discount percentage

Enter the percent off shown by the store, such as 15, 25, or 40.

  3. 3

Include tax and quantity if needed

Sales tax and quantity are optional, but they make the final total closer to what you will pay.

  4. 4

    Read the savings and total

The result separates sale price, savings, discounted subtotal, tax, and final total so you can check each part.

What Is a Discount?

A discount is a price reduction expressed as a percentage of the original price. If an item is 30% off, you save 30% of the original price and pay the remaining 70% before tax.

  • 10% off means you pay 90% of the original price.
  • 25% off means you pay 75% of the original price.
  • 50% off means the sale price is half of the original price.
  • Extra coupons stack only if the store applies them after the first discount.

Common Discount Examples

Use these examples to sanity-check sale tags and coupon math before checkout.

Original priceDiscountSale priceSavings
$10010%$90.00$10.00
$8025%$60.00$20.00
$25040%$150.00$100.00
$4515%$38.25$6.75
$12050%$60.00$60.00

Before You Rely on the Total

The final total is an estimate because stores may round at the item level, apply coupons in a specific order, exclude some items from a promotion, or use a different local sales tax rule.
